Community Outreach

THE SPRINGS strives to reach beyond the walls of our school into the greater community.

We started the School Year with a food drive for Capital Area Food Bank, the largest organization in the Washington metro area working to solve hunger.

We continued our outreach with a community service project called Pennies for Peace. Pennies for Peace is a program sponsored by Central Asia Institute, in which school children in the United States raise pennies to help fund CAI’s educational projects. The program focuses on raising cross-cultural awareness through education to promote peace.  “A penny in the United States may have little worth, but in Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Tajikistan just a few pennies can buy a pencil and open the door to literacy”.

After the devastating earthquake in Turkey, we felt the need to help. Ms. Ayla, our office manager and native of Turkey, collected necessities to send over to those in need. Our families and school community collected winter clothing for adults and children, tents, beds, tent mattresses, blankets, sleeping bags, thermoses, flashlights, shelf-stable, canned food, baby formula, diapers, hygiene products, and women’s hygiene products. Ms. Ayla made two trips to the Turkish embassy with her car packed with donations!!

Last but not least, we collected sneakers of all sizes for charity.

A special thank you goes to all our families for their generosity in participating in our outreach initiatives and for being an active and fundamental part of our community.
